Red River Recreation Commission

The Red River Commission has been in existence since 1994. Our Recreation District encompasses the R.M. of Montcalm and the Town of Emerson. We have seen many changes over the years including a shift of population from our rural area.

Although we continue to be involved in many health related initiatives, we also try to offer a broad range of services, events and programming. Hopefully this helps to increase opportunities to our residents for a well balanced life style.

We are continually working with other associations and groups offering programs jointly. This helps increase awareness of the programs as we as involving more sectors of the communities.

Volunteers are harder to recruit and keep. The Red River Recreation helps organizations by offering resources and jointly filling out various grants. This takes some stress off of these groups and offers a moral support system for them. Having readily available support in these areas takes some of the burden off of the community organizations, and helps encourage new volunteers to sign up.

Our role in the community has changed over the years from mostly programming to a more active role in helping secure grants for organizations and acting as a liaison between our many organizations’ executives. With low populations, we need to continually be communicating with each other in order to operate efficiently in our communities.
